On Wednesday 11.25.09, Ella first rolled from her back to her stomach. Now, she can't get enough of it. It's hilarious to watch, as she likes to roll and roll all across the room! I was able to catch some of her rolling in action tonight. :)

Mishaps in the Kitchen....
So Thanksgiving is tomorrow. Time for family & some food. Thought it'd be fun to make homemade rolls to include with the Thanksgiving meal at Jay's parents. First batch ended up in the trash. Something wasn't right with the dough - it didn't rise & I wasn't patient enough to wait before throwing them in the oven. So, told myself I should give it another shot. This time I pulled out the big guns - my Marjorie Johnson cookbook. As I've said in the past, I love her. Today, I REALLY loved her & wished terribly that she was on my speed dial to help me get the damn buns done! I'm a pretty good baker, so I didn't think this task would take up my ENTIRE day! Anyway, the second batch rose properly & came out of the oven golden brown (all thanks to the tips & info in Marjorie's book). Whew. But, we'll see about a taste test. See, I also made a pan of "just in case" buns, using the frozen dough (should have probably just done that from the beginning). And, because I'm worried about how both types of buns are going to end up tasting tomorrow, I just ran to Cub for the big purchase of a couple packs of brown & serve. Hey, at least there will be buns at the dinner table!
The title to this post is Mishaps in the Kitchen. Not only did I spend my entire day on buns, but I also wanted to whip up a "quick" salad for tomorrow. Simple. I've made it in the past. Should be no big deal. Good thing I was the only adult home today. The recipe requires chopped cranberries. I use one of those slap shot chopper deals. Remember the first batch of buns? Well, while I was chopping cranberries I wanted to take a peek at the buns in the oven. Big mistake. I kept my hand on the chopper, slipped/lost my balance or something & cranberry pieces flew everywhere. Under the burners on the stove, in the utensil holder, on the floor, you name it. Sometimes things in the kitchen just don't go my way.
For all of you out there who've been baking or cooking all day, or are in the midst of it right now, Good Luck. I hope it goes better for you than it did for me. And remember, there's always next year. Happy Thanksgiving.

5 months (sort of)
Ella is 5 months old as of 11/2 (sort of behind in the picture taking & blog updating). She's doing great. We've introduced the jumping/bouncing contraption, which she's starting to get the hang of. We're still working on her torso & neck control, but she seems to be getting stronger, so that's good news.
Speaking of the jumping/bouncing contraption, she's in there right now....and she just fell asleep!

Happy Halloween!
Ella's first Halloween was pretty uneventful. She's too little to really do anything too crazy to celebrate the holiday, but she did look pretty cute in her Giraffe outfit. :) I'm bummed - I bought her a cute Pumpkin bib to wear for the day, and of course, I forgot about it!!

We hung out at home for the afternoon & evening (we didn't hand out candy this year hoping to keep Ella sleeping through the night). Did you see the Gophers game!! WOW!
In other news, I got really sick of our couch & chair last weekend for some reason. So, yesterday afternoon I decided to take pictures & post them on Craigslist. We sold it this morning & the people who bought it just left. Am I crazy or what?!? We don't have any new furniture picked out yet, and when we've gone shopping for furniture in the past (we've been thinking about new furniture forever) we can never find something we like. Hopefully we'll be able to find new stuff soon. Until then, we're going to use our former loft furniture, which had been in our bedroom. Townhomes get too small after a baby!!
By the way, no, Ella didn't sleep through the night last night. Go figure. :)

4 Month Stats
Ella had her 4 month well visit today. She did great considering the dr. was running WAY late & then it took forever for the dreaded shot lady to arrive. So, this time I knew what to expect for the shots, and it was pretty much the same purple faced screaming baby. She settled down pretty quickly afterwards & was asleep once we got in the car.
Despite the acid reflux she is growing well. She weighs 14 lb. 4 oz, which is 75th percentile & is 26 1/2 inches long, topping the charts in the 97th percentile. Head measures 16 1/4 inches, 50th percentile. She's going to stay on the new meds for acid reflux until her 6 month visit, and then maybe we'll be able to wean her off. The only other news from the visit is that Ella's neck muscles aren't as developed as the dr. would like. We've got to amp up the tummy time & hopefully they will strengthen on their own, but if we don't notice improvement in the next few weeks, he thinks we should have her see a physical therapist to help us get her muscles strong enough so she can consistently hold her head up.
She isn't sleeping through the night yet - hopefully SOON! She's done a full night of sleep here and there, but generally she's up at least once for a bottle.
OMG! I forgot to mention - Ella rolled over last night for the first time! Yeah! She rolled from her stomach to back. She hasn't been able to roll from her back to her stomach yet, but maybe soon...
Happy Friday!

Pumpkin
Friday night, Jay's sister Annie hosted a pumpkin carving party. We had a good time, although Ella was a bit on the crabby side (maybe too many errands earlier in the day?!) Anyway, we didn't actually get to carve a pumpkin, but we ate lots of delicious treats & wore festive attire!
